Continuing to work with organic materials, Cloud Studies sources raw wool which is sculpted into cloud formations. A closer look at the work reveals the fibrous nature of the wool strands. Finished work are Type C photographs mounted on aluminum panels.
Influenced by some of the early color field paintings, this body of work departs from pure color representation by introducing elements from the original subject. Text from the reverse of sandpaper and the worn and frayed edges contrast with panels of seemingly pure monochrome.
Alfalfa uses hay and alfalfa as it's departure point to produce abstracted organic patterns. Hay is arranged in strong vertical slashes while the alfalfa pieces are more random in their arrangement.
Verticals are a series of works using small twigs and branches arranged and abstracted by shooting the arrangements out-of-focus. Images range from 4'x5' to 5'x 10' and are mounted to a 2" deep box structure with white finished sides.
This smaller body of work assembles common kitchen SOS scouring pads into sculptural formations sometimes referencing the muscular abstraction of 1960's paintings.
The wool series was one of the earlier bodies of work dealing with organic materials. The work uses raw wool as a departure point and studies include strong repeating vertical lines which on closer inspection reveal the stranded wool fibers.
Completed sometime after 2001, The Stack series consists of precarious often leaning stacks of generic cardboard boxes. Evoking architectural structures and skyscrapers the assemblages sometimes push the envelope in terms of what would be a sound structure to build.
